Amount of Scholarship Award

One (1) or more (depending on funding availability) award per year of $1000.00.

Applicant Eligibility

  • Applicants must be enrolled full-time (or the equivalent as defined by the program) and in good standing in a CAA accredited program of study in either speech-language pathology or audiology.
  • Applicants must be graduate students or clinical doctorate students who are beginning either their 1st or 2nd year of study. 1st year applicants must indicate acceptance into a graduate program with their letter of acceptance, or a letter from their program chair.

Application Process

Completed applications (including letters of recommendation) must be received by the Chair of the Honors and Awards Committee by June 1. In the event the applicant is an in-coming first-year graduate student, a copy of a letter of acceptance into one of the Oklahoma ASHA CAA accredited graduate programs must accompany the application. Incomplete applications will not be eligible for consideration. All eligible applications will be rated by the selection committee, based on the criteria listed below. The top three highest-scoring applications will be forwarded to the executive council which will review the final three applications and select the recipient of the scholarship award. The Executive Council members will return their judging results to the Chair of the Honors and Awards committee who will determine the winner(s), based on the scoring of the Executive committee. She/he will then contact the recipient(s) of the award(s).

Notification of Award

The recipient(s) of the scholarship(s) will be notified by September 1st, and will be presented with the award at the following annual fall conference.

Submission and Selection Criteria

All applications will be rated based on the following criteria and weights. Students should submit all of the following information in order to complete their application:

1. Cumulative undergraduate and graduate GPA (an official or unofficial copy of the student’s transcript should accompany the application information).


2. Description of undergraduate and graduate involvement in pre-professional and volunteer organizations (please list activities and dates of involvement).


3. Statement of career objectives and professional interests (statements of objectives exceeding 500 words will not be considered).


4. Two letters of recommendation. Letters should be written by individuals who are familiar with the student’s academic or clinical work. At least one letter must be written by a current member of OSHA who is in good standing. Recommendation letters may be sent in by the student (in sealed envelopes with the signature of the writer on the seal) or they may be sent in directly by the writer of the letter.


5. Brief statement of financial need. This short statement may also include information regarding how the scholarship award may be used to further the applicant’s career objectives.
